The Boeing 747 is a widebody airliner which began operation in 1970. Dubbed the "Queen of the skies", the mighty 747 is responsible to opening up air travel to millions.

The 747 is in most major flight simulators, including FSX (base game), Xplane (base game), MSFS 2020 (base game) and P3D.

The major Variants of the 747 are:

Boeing 747-100

The Boeing 747-100 was the initial variant of the aircraft, with the first flight of the type being with Pan Am in 1970. A noteable feature of this type is the 3 singular windows on the top deck (this was increased to ten windows in the -100b and -200 variants).

Boeing 747-200

The Boeing 747-200 entered service in 1971. It featured a greater capacity, extendened range and a increased maximum takeoff weight. The -200 was the first 747 type to offer a specificly designed freighter version.

Boeing 747SP

The Boeing 747SP, or Special Performance version, entered service in 1976. The -SP was 48 feet shorter than the -100 variant, and offered a much greater range than either of the -100 or -200 variants.

Boeing 747-300

The Boeing 747-300 entered service in 1983. It features a upper deck 23 feet longer than the -200. No Freigeter versions were ever ordered for the type, and it would be the last analogue (or Classic) 747 variant.

Boeing 747-400

The Boeing 747-400 was a complete overhaul of the 747. Introduced in 1989, the type featured many technological advancements such as winglets to increase efficiency. The type introduced a "glass cockpit", replacing the flight engineer with a computer.

Boeing 747-8

The Boeing 747-8 was introduced in 2010. It was the first 747 type with a stretched fuselage, from 232 feet to 251 feet, making it the worlds longest commercial arliner.
